Mind & Media is seeking two Mandarin speaking actors for a brief video shoot on Tuesday morning, July 9, 2019.
This is for the Spanish version of a training video for Census takers (for use in Puerto Rico) on how to handle a language barrier. One character speaks only Mandarin. The other character speaks Mandarin and enough Spanish to get by, who serves as interpreter.
The census taker (already cast) will be speaking in Spanish and the Mandarin speaker who answers the door indicates s/he doesn’t speak Spanish, only Mandarin. The census taker asks if there is anyone at home who can interpret. The second actor should be able to pronounce enough Spanish for minimal lines “interpreting” for the first character.
The director is bilingual in English and Spanish, so if you speak Mandarin along with English and can manage learning a little Spanish you don’t have to be bilingual or sound fluent in Spanish!
Most of the lines are the census taker’s and the two Mandarin speaking respondent give minimal responses (yes, no, etc.). So if you are bilingual actor applying, and you have a family member available who only speaks Mandarin, please let us know because this could work well (mimicking the actual scenario we are illustrating).
Rate: $300 half day (each actor)
