Customized Web-Based Public Training

The IRS’s Customer Education and Outreach (CE&O) office of Exempt Organizations helps exempt organizations understand and meet their tax compliance requirements. To accomplish this goal, CE&O conducts a series of workshops for small and medium-sized tax-exempt organizations throughout the country. These workshops help tax-exempt organizations meet tax requirements. Because the workshops were so successful, CE&O wanted to expand the reach of this exceptional educational program.

The Solution

To meet this challenge, Mind & Media created a customized, web-based version of the tax-compliance workshops. Mind & Media:

  • Used appealing images, crystal-clear language, and interactivity to translate the existing training material for online delivery
  • Developed user-friendly, flexible training modules that function as self-contained instructional units and allow users to exit at any point during their training session
  • Ensured that the computer-based training was both secure and 508 compliant
  • Customized the program so that individual segments of the training could be updated without having to recreate the entire project
  • Delivered the training in a CD format and hosted the training on a non-IRS server

The Results

Mind & Media’s web-based training program empowered the CE&O office to reach a much larger, more widespread audience. Within six months of launch, the site trained over 20,000 users nationwide. Annualized, thats a nearly 1500% increase over the 2,700 the IRS previously trained annually at only six locations. Additionally, converting the stand-up training to an online format provided CE&O with long-term budget benefits, such as reduction or elimination of administrative, printing, material, and travel costs.
