PTSD Couples Therapy Website - US Air Force

The Challenge

For the US Air Force Dr. Candice Monson conducts classroom-based training sessions on Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The workshops teach therapists how to administer a 15-session intervention course for couples affected by PTSD.  Students leave the workshop with excellent information and understanding yet, as with any training, would benefit from ongoing support to help them implement the therapy techniques successfully.

The Solution

Mind & Media developed a website to supplement the on-site training that provides a community for continuous learning and repository for training materials and media. The site includes:

  • Refresher training including course content summary and a searchable PDF of the manual
  • Blog  where Dr. Monson can post additional content and dialog with trainees
  • User forum where trainees can build a community of practice to share lessons learned and best practices, and pose questions to their colleagues or Dr. Monson
  • Media library where Dr. Monson can upload audio/video content such as therapy role plays
  • FAQs /topic-specific advice for the most typically asked questions about the course/therapy
  • Password protection for all course-specific, clinician-oriented site content

The site is built with WordPress, a free, open-source blog and content management tool. Using WordPress allows for simple administration, easy addition/editing of content, and optional moderation of users and user-posted content. As with all our websites, it features a professionally designed, attractive interface with clear, user-friendly navigation. The site incorporates search engine friendly site architecture and integrated site search that automatically catalogues new content.

The Results

After earning high praise from Dr. Monson´s US Air Force client, the website launched to the private community in spring 2010. With only a brief tutorial Dr. Monson´s team is able to administer the site and add new content. Classroom trainees can visit the site to access follow on materials and podcasts or pose a question to the community.
