The Challenge

With the heightened need for trained soldiers in today’s world, the National Guard came to Mind & Media to help it attract new recruits by constructing a program that would appeal to today’s technologically savvy teenagers. We needed to make it so compelling that both Guard trainers and school personnel would recognize its value and adopt it.

The Solution

Mind & Media created an enormously successful dual-purpose training tool in the YOU CAN School Program. This set of 45-minute multimedia presentations teaches high school juniors and seniors crucial life skills that can guide them as they plan their futures, while gently piquing their curiosity about the National Guard. Mind & Media:

• Developed 30 engaging, pedagogically sound presentations, including lesson plans, hands-on exercises, group discussions, and youth-oriented music, images, and video
• Created a train-the-trainer package, including CDs and a Presenter’s Guide, as well as online trainer testing and certification
• Designed a website with portals for students, educators, and the Guard, as well as four streaming media presentations, descriptions of the YOU CAN modules, news, links, information on joining the Guard, and trainer evaluation and certification
• Produced an interactive marketing CD, brochure, and poster for Guard representatives to use when marketing the program to schools

The Results

The YOU CAN School Program sparked a significant increase in the number of students requesting information from the Guard. YOU CAN has won 13 industry awards for educational and communications excellence.
