The Challenge

In 2007, the City of Alexandria wanted to celebrate the advances it had made in the areas of cultural diversity, education, and development, and promote where they’d be going with those efforts in the coming year. They asked Mind & Media to create an inspirational video to highlight these initiatives, which would be shown to members of the Chamber of Commerce and business community as an introduction to the mayor’s State of the City speech.

The Solution

To showcase the city's achievements and its exciting future developments, Mind & Media shot and edited State of the City 2007-Great Expectations, a vibrant eight-minute video montage that:

• Combined music and natural sound with captivating cinematic images of more than 30 of the city’s cultural events, historical landmarks, and exciting new business centers and development projects, designed to display the varied and evolving facets of the city
• Used camera movements and film techniques that captured the energy of the city and the people who live and work there and enjoy it every day
• Included post-production features that highlighted the colors and diversity of the city

The Results

Mind & Media’s inspirational video presentation was a success. The mayor and the City praised the video for grabbing and holding the audience’s attention and providing a perfect visual representation of the themes in the mayor’s speech. After the speech, the City decided to feature the video on the City of Alexandria’s cable access television channel, and it also has plans to put the video on its website. As a result of the positive response to the video, the City has optioned Mind & Media’s services to complete more shooting and editing for next year’s video.
