Aegis Awards: This competition recognizing excellence in the video production industry receives an average of 2500 entries a year in ten categories. They are peer-judged against a high standard of excellence by fellow professionals in the video and film industry. Top entries receive a Winner Award, and a Finalist Award is given to runners up.
Alexandria Chamber of Commerce: The Alexandria, VA, Chamber of Commerce, which serves as the voice of business in the City of Alexandria, is one of the largest and most effective chambers in the Greater Washington region, as well as one of the oldest chambers in the country. Its Small Business of the Year Award recognizes outstanding service-oriented businesses in the Alexandria area.
American Business Awards (The Stevies): The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the efforts, accomplishments, and positive contributions of companies and business people worldwide. Beginning with the American Business Awards in 2002, the International Business Awards in 2003, the Stevie Awards for Women in Business in 2004, and the Selling Power Sales Excellence Awards in 2006, the Stevies' mission is to raise the profile of exemplary companies and individuals among the press, the business community, and the general public. In short order the Stevie has become one of the world's most coveted awards. The Stevies have been called "the business world's own Oscar Awards."
APEX Awards: This annual competition rewards overall communications effectiveness and excellence among writers, editors, publications staff, and business and nonprofit communicators. Of an average 5,000 entries received per year, just 105 Grand Awards are conferred. An Award of Excellence is given to runners up.
Aurora Awards: These awards recognize excellence in the film and video industries, specifically non-national commercials, regional or special-interest entertainment, and corporate-sponsored film and video. The Best of Show award is the highest honor given, and only one in ten entries receive it. Approximately two in ten entries receive the Gold Award.
AV Video & Multimedia Producer Magazine Top 100: This list honors producers with a demonstrable passion for producing dynamic media for business and who use their talent to raise the standards of the industry. A panel of judges made up of veteran producers and key industry executives select from the entries those who have made the greatest mark on the industry.
AXIEM Awards: This international awards program, now defunct, honored Absolute eXcellence In Electronic Media (film, video, and television). Of over 1,000 entries received in 2004, 15 percent received a Copper AXIEM, the highest award, and 23 percent won a Silver AXIEM. Instead of being judged against each other, entries are judged solely on their own merits against a standard of excellence created for their medium and market.
CINDY (CINema in INDustry) Awards: Sponsored by the International Association of Audio Visual Communicators, a nonprofit group representing theatrical, broadcast, non-broadcast, and interactive media professionals throughout the world, CINDY is the premier international audio-visual competition. Five awards of merit—Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honorable Mention, and Special Achievement—are awarded across many categories, as are five special awards, including Best of Show.
CINE Golden Eagle Film and Video Competitions: The CINE Golden Eagle Award, given semi-annually, recognizes excellence in professional and amateur filmmaking and videography. Special Jury Awards, Masters Series Awards, and an Award of Excellence are also presented to the best productions across many categories. On average, over 300 jurors judge over 1,000 entries per competition.
Communicator Print Media Awards: Sponsored by Communication Arts magazine, the Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing creative excellence in the communication field. In the Print Media Awards, each entry is judged on its own merit, not against other entries, and the best in the field are given the Award of Excellence. The Award of Distinction and Honorable Mentions are awarded to entries that meet or exceed industry standards of excellence.
Communicator Video/Multimedia Awards: Sponsored by Communication Arts magazine, the Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing creative excellence in the communication field. In the Video Awards, videos that are judged best in the field are given the Award of Excellence. The Award of Distinction and Honorable Mentions are awarded to entries that meet or exceed industry standards of excellence.
Create Awards: Sponsored by Create magazine, one of the largest distributed creative publications in the country, the Create Awards honor excellence in 10 categories, including advertising, film and video, graphic communication, and interactive media. Advertising and creative production professionals from around the nation choose Silver, Gold, Best of Category, and Best of Industry winners, as well as a top Best of Show winner.
Creativity Annual Design Showcase Awards: The Creativity Awards is one of the oldest and most well-established graphic design competitions, attracting thousands of entries a year across dozens of categories. Approximately 5 percent of entrants receive a Platinum Award—the highest honor—while 10 percent receive Gold and 25 percent receive Silver. Each year the full-color, hardbound Creativity annual showcases this outstanding advertising and design work.
Davey Awards: The annual Davey Awards, sponsored by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, honor the creative achievements of smaller agencies and companies worldwide. From an average of 3,500 entries per year, top entries—no more than 10 percent—win a Gold Davey Award, the highest honor. Other outstanding entries win a Silver Davey Award. A Best in Show award is given to one Gold winner per category.

DOD Visual Information Production Awards: Offered every 18 months by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, and judged by video professionals from the U.S. military and academia, the Visual Information Production Awards are known as the DoD “Oscars.” First, second, and third places are offered in four categories, and there is one overall Production of the Year.
Galaxy Awards: The MerComm Awards Competition was founded in 1987 with the principal purpose of advancing the arts and sciences of communications in an international arena. The organization strives to establish and promote high standards of individual and collective achievement by way of recognizing the multi-disciplines involved in professional communications. The GALAXY Award symbolizes the assembly of numerous disciplines that create marketing excellence. The GALAXY Awards honor the professionals who contribute to the process of building image, creating profit, and making a difference in the market place.
Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards: The Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards celebrate innovative and trail-blazing companies, industry heavyweights, and long-term pillars of the government contracting industry. Presented by Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce's Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council (GovCon), Professional Services Council (PSC), and Washington Technology, the awards continue the community's tradition of paying tribute to those who set the bar for the industry.
Helios Apollo HR Awards: The Helios Apollo Awards™ recognize Washington-area organizations that promote a continuous learning environment as part of their organizational culture. Criteria for consideration include: 1) creating new and challenging opportunities in support of their commitment; 2) communication of such opportunities; and 3) impact such programs have on the organization.
Hispanic Business Magazine: Fastest-Growing U.S. Hispanic-Owned Companies: Hispanic Business magazine is the leader in career placement, recruitment services, business research, surveys, and advertising in the Hispanic market. Its Fastest-Growing U.S. Hispanic-Owned Companies list recognizes companies with the greatest percentage of revenue growth.
Horizon Interactive Awards: These awards were created to recognize outstanding achievement in the field of interactive media. The competition is limited to firms, agencies, and individuals that earn less than $5 million in annual revenue. From hundreds of entries a year, a panel of professionals from all levels of the interactive media industry award Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention distinctions. Gold winners are eligible for Best of Show, Best of Category, and other special awards.
Inc. 5,000: Inc. magazine, long publisher of the Inc. 500, announced the Inc. 5,000 in 2007. The Inc. 5,000 includes the Inc. 500, but digs deeper to offer the most comprehensive look ever at the entrepreneurial engine driving the U.S. economy. The Inc. 5,000 for 2007 were ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2003 through 2006.
Insight Awards: Presented by the National Association of Film and Digital Media Artists, the Insight Awards honor film and digital media that contribute to society by increasing public awareness or raising social consciousness about issues affecting our global community. Entries demonstrating exceptional skill and talent in their respective fields win the Award of Excellence—the highest honor. Finalists in each category win the Award of Recognition.
International Association of Business Communicators: The IABC, a worldwide network of professionals committed to the highest organizational communication standards, sponsors six awards competitions: the Gold Quill Awards; the Excel Award; the Chairman’s Awards; the Fellow Award; the Jake Wittmer Award; and the Chapter Management Awards. Each of the awards recognizes excellence in business communication and celebrates best practices that advance the profession.
International Wildlife Film Festival: A not-for-profit juried competition showcasing the world's best wildlife film and television, the International Wildlife Film Festival is one of the most important wildlife film events in the world. Categories include Best Animation, Best Children's Program, Best Conservation Message, and Best of Festival.
ITVA-DC Peer Awards: The Washington, DC, chapter of the Media Communications Association honors excellence in television production in the DC area. In addition to winners in dozens of categories, the Peer Committee awards one individual who has contributed significantly to the media production field with a Distinguished Achievement Award.
Long Island International Film Expo (LIFE): Sponsored by the Long Island Film/TV Foundation, this prestigious film festival screens approximately 155 independent films during its weeklong run. Winners are honored at the Salute to Independent Filmmakers and Awards Ceremony Gala.
MarCom Creative Awards: Administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, the MarCom Creative Awards recognizes marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of marketing and communication print, visual, and audio materials. Out of over 4,000 annual entries, approximately 15 percent receive the prestigious Platinum Award, 16 percent receive the second-place Gold Award, and 10 percent receive Honorable Mentions.
New York International Independent Film and Video Festival: One of the leading film events on the independent festival circuit, the NYIIFVF attracts entries from around the world in features, shorts, animation, and documentaries. The festival is known as "the voice for independent film," receives extensive coverage in the media, and opens doors for both novice and high-profile filmmakers.
National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) Media Awards: These awards recognize the work of outstanding film and video producers, directors, and other artisans in the film and media industry who excel in the production of films relevant to family issues. There is a winner, runner-up, and honorable mention in each category.
Omni Intermedia Awards: The Omni Awards, which exist to recognize outstanding media productions that engage, empower, and enlighten, reward excellence in the converging fields of television, video, radio, film, Internet, and multimedia. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards are given to entries that are judged on their own merit. The prestigious Platinum Award is given to entries that compete with others in their field and are found to be the very best.
The Stevie Awards for Women in Business: The Stevie Awards were created to honor and generate public recognition of the efforts, accomplishments, and positive contributions of companies and business people worldwide. Summit Creative Awards: The Summit Creative Awards recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of small and medium-sized creative companies throughout the world with annual billings of under $25 million. The awards receives over 4,000 entries a year from more than 25 countries. Top entries receive a Gold Award, while second and third place win Silver and Bronze.
Telly Awards: The Telly Awards inspire, promote, and support creativity by honoring the very best in television, video, and film. Out of over 12,000 entries a year, just 7–10 percent receive the top honor—a Silver Telly. A Bronze Telly for outstanding achievement is awarded to 18–25 percent of entries.
US International Film & Video Festival: Founded in 1967, the US International Film and Video Festival is one of the world's leading international events recognizing outstanding business, television, documentary, educational, and entertainment productions. Winning entries are selected on effectiveness and creativity, not just numerical scoring. The Gold Camera is the festival's highest award; also awarded are the Silver Screen and the Certificate of Creative Excellence.
Videographer Awards: These awards, which recognize communications professionals who are raising the standards of the videography industry, honor all aspects of video production, television commercials, news and programs, and special events videos. Entries that communicate their messages exceptionally well are awarded the Videographer Award of Excellence. The Award of Distinction goes to entries that are outstanding, and Honorable Mentions are awarded to projects that exceed industry standards.
